This skillfully carved bread board of solid walnut was probably made for a captain, in honor of a journey departing for Baltimore in 1788. The inscription on the bottom of the board reads: ‘T Schip Amerika Baltimore, 1788.’

The board central feature is an intricate monogram, surrounded by a detailed border, topped with a crown element. The rest of the board is decorated with beautifully carved swirls and curly plant motives. Between the board and the handle there is a small heart-shaped cutout.
