These dishes are notable for their particularly successful combination of a décor in blue, symbolizing architecture, with a richly decorated border, which is partly executed in black and yellow, two exceptional colors for Delft earthenware.

In a certain sense these chargers are a pair, but not a pair in the true meaning, where the decoration on the flat is mirrored. This is typical for Delft: the decoration was applied using a pierced pattern sheet, through which pigments were blown, which left the outlines of the design on the item; it was however too expensive to work with mirrored patterns as well.

Provenance: ex. A.C. Beeling, Leeuwarden en, ex. veiling Frederik Muller & Cie, 30 nov. 1920, lot 288.
