The frame of this mirror is richly carved and features elegant Rococo-style decoration, including flowing scrolls and floral motifs. The mirror is attributed to Asmus Frauen, a sculptor originally from Transylvania who was active in the Netherlands during the 18th century.
Frauen is best known for the white marble pulpit in the Grote Kerk (Great Church) of Dordrecht, a prominent example of his refined craftsmanship. He also contributed to the interior of Huize De Dieu (also known as Huize Egmont) in Alkmaar. A chandelier originally made for this residence, now housed in the Rijksmuseum, shows strong stylistic similarities to Frauen’s work. The museum also holds a buffet cabinet with decorative elements which are attributed to him.
