While foot warmers were not very common in the eighteenth century, miniature examples, however, are known to exist. Foot warmers made by Kingma (Makkum) first appeared on the market at the end of the eighteenth century but there was no significant increase in demand until 1800. There are also numerous known foot warmers dating from the first half of the nineteenth century that were produced in Harlingen. Besides having a purely decorative function, such stoves were also sometimes used as a tea warmer.
