This teapot was made by Wilhelmus Maessen, a silversmith active in Maastricht during the first half of the 18th century.
The object is marked with a ‘C’, indicating it was made between 1722 and 1724. It also bears Maessen’s master mark ‘WM’ and the star — the iconic city mark of Maastricht. The numbers displayed above these marks are an inventory mark. We believe the initials ‘H.C.’ to be a contemporary mark, added at a later date.
