The dish has a scalloped rim and contains blue decoration. The decoration is inspired by Chinese porcelain from the Kangxi period (1662-1722) and is known as ‘sunflowerdecor’.
Relatively large parts of Chinese porcelain services with this type of decoration still exist today. Several examples of Delft earthenware emulations are known to us as well. We however do not know if Delft pieces were made to complete the services or if the decor was just very beloved.
Special about this dish is the Kangxi mark of the incense burner which is placed on the back alongside the mark of Cornelis Brouwer. The mark of Brouwer also contains a star, because he was the owner of “De Witte Starre” (“The White Star”) factory from 1723 until 1746. Brouwer also was the co-owner of the Rotterdam based factory “De Blompot” of the Aelmis family.
